Adjusting to study in Australia
Our dedicated teaching staff at HCLA will also help you to adjust to an Australian classroom setting. As a student, attending an Australian university or college might be a bit different than what you are expecting. In our academic programs and workshops, your teachers may assist you with learning how to approach things like:
- Group work/assignments
- Essay writing and referencing your sources
- Study skills
- Contributing to a group discussion
- Standards and expectations of students
Students are required to submit their own work for assessment. The presentation of someone else’s work, words or ideas as one’s own is plagiarism and therefore unacceptable. Plagiarism can be deliberate or accidental. Whenever students use the words or ideas of another person in their work, they must acknowledge where it is originally taken from (this is called referencing). Various forms of plagiarism are as follows:
- Downloading or copying any materials/ ideas or part of it from an online source and submitting it as your own work with acknowledging and
- Buying, stealing or borrowing any materials/ ideas and submitting it as your own work
